Drink Safe Precinct trials
In 2010, the Queensland Government announced an important two-year trial of Drink Safe Precincts (DSPs) to reduce alcohol-related violence in the key entertainment precincts of Surfers Paradise, Townsville and Fortitude Valley.
The DSP trials form part of the Queensland Government’s response to recommendations from a parliamentary inquiry into alcohol-related violence. This inquiry was initiated by the Bligh Government in 2009, with the Government’s response tabled in Parliament on 27 August 2010.
The pilot precincts have been operational since December 2010. Snapshots of information about what happened during the first three, six and nine months of the trial, including a range of statistics, are now available.
