New Basics and Rich Tasks
The print version of the Responsible Gambling Teaching Resource Kit contains recommendations for how to introduce responsible gambling education within the context of New Basics Rich Tasks.
The New Basics Project is an initiative of Education Queensland. Rich tasks are the outward and visible sign of student engagement with the New Basics curriculum framework.
Responsible Gambling resources could easily form the basis of a Rich Task, particularly in Suite Three - Years 7-10:
- Gambling: That's entertainment? (PDF 235 K) would be suitable to support Rich Task 6 - Opinion making oracy. It could be used in combination with In control - Taking responsible risks (PDF 775 K).
- In control - Taking responsible risks would be suitable for use in either Rich Task 2 or 6. It could be used in combination with either Gambling and heath: Communication skills (PDF 1,805 K) or Gambling: Minimising health risks (PDF 325 K).
- The HPE modules would be suitable for use in either Rich Task 2 or 6. They could be undertaken as independent units or combined for a more comprehensive unit of work. Tasks from In control - Taking responsible risks could be used to enhance material from the level 6 HPE unit, particularly in relation to advertising products.
- Idea sheets that may be of use for older students are - Youth media campaign (PDF 350 K), Gaming machines are big business (PDF 170 K), Dial a debt (PDF 150 K) or Voices (PDF 140 K).
- After the beep and the Triple J radio interviews are useful audio-visual resources for older age groups.
