Health and Physical Education modules
Two responsible gambling modules have been developed for the Queensland 1-10 Health and Physical Education syllabus. They have been written for classes in the Middle and Senior phases of learning and form part of the Responsible Gambling Teaching Resource Kit.
Gambling and Health: Communication Skills (Level 5)
The level 5 module, Gambling and health: Communication skills (PDF 1,805 K), supports students in Years 8-9 to consider the sorts of activities that constitute gambling and to examine the consequences of problem gambling on the health of individuals and communities.
Students will learn to:
- Predict the long-term and short-term health consequences of problem gambling
- Propose actions that deal with gambling-related issues that promote health now and in the future
Gambling Minimising Health Risks (Level 6)
Develop interpersonal and communication skills to deal with challenge and conflict.
The level 6 module, Gambling: Minimising health risks (PDF 325 K), supports students in Years 9-10 to demonstrate core learning outcomes that focus on the investigation of socio-cultural and environmental factors associated with problem gambling.
Students will learn:
- About socio-cultural factors that can contribute to problem gambling
- To propose some strategies that could be used to address problem gambling
To examine critically gambling advertising and the advertising of gambling support services.
