Liquor licence types
The following liquor licence types are available under the Liquor Act 1992:
- commercial hotel
- commercial other:
- subsidiary on-premises
- subsidiary off-premises
- bar
- industrial canteen
- producer/wholesaler
- commercial special facility
- community club:
- (large >2000 members)
- (small <2000 members)
- community other.
The following licences are available under the Wine Industry Act 1994:
- wine licence
- wine producer licence
- wine merchant licence.
Trading hours – Liquor only
Liquor may be served at any time from Monday to Sunday, between the hours of 10 am and 12 midnight. If extended trading hours are required, you must lodge a separate application for approved extended trading hours.
Applications to trade prior to 10 am must demonstrate a community need for the extended hours.
Applications to trade beyond 12 midnight must include either a full or standard community impact statement, depending on the hours applied for.
Please note: A moratorium to 15 December 2010 currently applies to new applications to extend trading hours beyond midnight. The Government has announced that the moratorium will be extended until 2013. More information about the moratorium.
On Good Friday and Christmas Day, liquor may only be served during ordinary (not extended) hours, and only in conjunction with a meal prepared, served and intended to be eaten in an area ordinarily used for dining. On Anzac Day, this provision applies until 1 pm.

Guideline 14: Particulars to be displayed on licensed premises
Particular details need to be displayed alongside the name of premises
There is a defined process for obtaining a refund for cancelled applications.
Guideline 25: Trading names for licensed premises
The trading name of licensed premises must reflect the main activity of the business.
Guideline 48: Allowable absences
This section applies to an individual licensee or permittee wishing to be absent from the management and supervision of the licensed premises for a continuous period of not more than three months.
This section applies if a licensed premises includes a car park.
