Liquor compliance

The primary role for Liquor Compliance is to ensure licensees who hold liquor licenses under the Liquor Act 1992 (the Act) comply with the authorities of their respective licenses and the responsibilities and obligations as provided under the Act, including ensuring that the conduct of the licensed premises does not affect the amenity and good order of the community it is situated in.

Compliance officers conduct proactive, educational and reactive functions in order to achieve compliance. Such functions include:–

An important component of reactive investigations relates to the investigation of confiscated identifications attempted to be used by under aged persons trying to gain entry to licensed premises. Each year there are in excess of 2500 identifications confiscated at licensed premises and sent to OLGR for investigation.

Additionally, officers carry out detailed investigations of major event applications for liquor permits. These investigations include planning partnerships with permittee applicants, event organisers, police and other stakeholders. As part of the process, officers then attend the event and conduct compliance investigations to ensure that the permit holder is complying with all requirements of the permit.

The Compliance Division of OLGR is an active participant in all Liquor Accords across Queensland, taking the opportunity to provide assistance and educational information on the latest requirements under the Act to licensees.
