Alcohol restrictions for Queensland travellers

Since 30 December 2002, restrictions on the type and quantity of liquor that can be brought into (or through) various remote Indigenous communities have been introduced in Queensland.

Alcohol Management Plans have been developed by Community Justice Groups and contain recommendations for declaring all or part of a community area a:

• Restricted Area and/or a
• Dry Place

Those planning to visit, travel through or pass near Indigenous communities in Queensland must ensure they are aware of the laws. There are heavy penalties for anyone breaking the law (fines up to $50,000 for a first offence and up to $100,000 for a third offence).

For information on the alcohol restrictions in place, visit the Indigenous section of this website.
